Current service
Is the Lakshadweep seaplane service currently operating?
Yes. A published seaplane timetable is in effect from 18 September to 14 October 2026, operating daily except Tuesdays on the Kochi–Kalpeni–Kavaratti–Kadmat–Agatti circuit. Individual sectors are still subject to weather and operator confirmation — reconfirm 24–48 hours before travel. Timings for travel after 14 October 2026 are not yet published. Check our current service status (last verified 10 September 2026) and contact us with your dates.
What happened during the May 2026 seaplane trials?
Public reporting in May 2026 described successful trial flights between Kochi and Lakshadweep, with landings at Agatti and Kavaratti and routing including Kochi–Agatti–Kalpeni–Kavaratti and Kochi–Kadmat–Kiltan–Agatti. Those trials evaluated regular service. The operator has since published a scheduled timetable for 18 September to 14 October 2026 covering the Kochi–Kalpeni–Kavaratti–Kadmat–Agatti sectors.
Who operates Lakshadweep seaplane services?
We are a Lakshadweep-based travel company, not the aircraft operator. Seaplane availability, schedules and fares are subject to the authorised operating carrier and applicable regulatory approvals. We help travellers check availability and coordinate bookings through authorised channels.
How do I check if my route is available on my dates?
For travel between 18 September and 14 October 2026, check the published timetable on our schedule page (no service on Tuesdays), then submit an enquiry to confirm seats and reporting times for your specific date. For travel after 14 October 2026, enquire — timings are not yet published. See how booking works.
Routes
What seaplane routes connect Kochi to Lakshadweep?
On the published 18 September to 14 October 2026 timetable, Kochi–Kalpeni is a direct scheduled sector, and Kavaratti, Kadmat and Agatti are same-day connections through Kalpeni and Kavaratti. Kiltan is not on the current timetable. Each route has a status label on our routes page.
Is there a direct Kochi to Kavaratti seaplane?
Not a single direct sector. On the published timetable, Kochi to Kavaratti is a same-day connection — Kochi–Kalpeni (07:30, or 10:00 on 18 September) then Kalpeni–Kavaratti — arriving Kavaratti at about 09:45. We confirm seats and reporting times when you enquire.
Can I take a seaplane between Lakshadweep islands?
Yes. The published 18 September to 14 October 2026 timetable includes scheduled inter-island sectors between Kalpeni, Kavaratti, Kadmat and Agatti (daily except Tuesdays), with Kavaratti as the hub. These are not walk-up shuttles — book each sector in advance. Kiltan sectors are not on the current timetable.
How do seaplane routes interact with flights to Agatti?
Many travellers fly Kochi, Bengaluru or Goa to Agatti on conventional airlines, then use seaplane or boat transfers to other islands. See our mainland air connectivity section and route guide for combining flights with seaplane sectors.
What do the route status labels mean?
Labels such as Scheduled, Operating, Trial, Planned and Awaiting confirmation describe the verified status of each sector. "Scheduled" means the sector is on the operator's published 18 September to 14 October 2026 timetable. See the routes page legend for full definitions.
Booking
How do I book a Lakshadweep seaplane?
Start by enquiring about availability for your route and travel dates. We check current operational status, confirm fares, and assist with coordinating your permit and island accommodation. Booking is enquiry-based, not instant online purchase. See our booking guide.
How early should I enquire about seaplane travel?
As early as possible, especially for travel between October and March. Limited capacity and weather dependency mean seats are not guaranteed close to departure. Permits and accommodation should also be arranged well in advance.
Can I book a seaplane ticket online instantly?
No. Lakshadweep seaplane booking on this site is enquiry-based. We verify route availability, confirm fares and coordinate permits and accommodation before any payment is taken.
What information should I include in my enquiry?
Travel dates, number of travellers, preferred islands, whether you need mainland entry or inter-island sectors, and whether you are combining with a conventional flight to Agatti. This helps us check the right routes quickly.
Fares
How much does a Lakshadweep seaplane cost?
Fares depend on the route, travel date and current operational pricing. Fares may change and GST may apply separately. Contact us for the current fare on your preferred sector. See fare information.
Are seaplane fares fixed?
No. Fares are subject to change based on operational costs, demand and operator pricing. Always confirm the fare for your specific dates before making payment.
What is included in the seaplane fare?
Inclusions vary by route and booking. Typically the fare covers the seaplane sector itself. Transfers, meals, accommodation and permits are separate unless specified in a package.
Is seaplane travel more expensive than the ship?
Generally yes when seaplane services are operating. Ships are more economical but take significantly longer. See our seaplane vs ship guide for a detailed comparison.
Baggage
How much baggage can I carry on a Lakshadweep seaplane?
Typical allowance: approximately 12 kg per person, based on currently available service information. Exact allowance depends on the operating aircraft and carrier and must be confirmed before travel. Last verified: 19 August 2026.
Why is the seaplane baggage limit lower than a regular flight?
Seaplanes are smaller amphibious aircraft with strict weight and balance limits. Soft bags are easier to stow than hard suitcases. Keep essentials, permits and medications in hand baggage.
Can I carry diving equipment on a seaplane?
Diving gear is heavy and may exceed the typical allowance. Confirm with us before booking if you are travelling with equipment — you may need to ship items separately or use boat transport.
Permits
Do I need a permit to travel to Lakshadweep?
Yes. All visitors — Indian nationals and foreign tourists — require a Lakshadweep entry permit. The permit must cover every island in your itinerary on a single permit. See our permit guide.
Do I need a separate permit for each island?
No. You need one Lakshadweep entry permit, and every island included in your itinerary must be covered by that permit.
How long does permit processing take?
Allow at least 7–15 working days, sometimes longer for complex itineraries or less-visited islands. Apply through authorised channels with confirmed accommodation details.
Weather
Can weather affect seaplane operations?
Yes. Seaplane operations are highly weather-dependent. High winds, rough lagoon conditions and poor visibility can cause delays or cancellations. Build buffer time into your itinerary.
What is the best time of year for seaplane travel?
October to May generally offers calmer seas and more predictable conditions in Lakshadweep. Monsoon months (roughly June to September) bring heavier rain and rougher seas that can affect both seaplanes and boats.
Should I build buffer days around seaplane sectors?
Yes. We recommend at least one buffer day around seaplane sectors, especially when connecting to conventional flights at Agatti or mainland departures from Kochi.
Cancellations
What happens if my seaplane sector is cancelled due to weather?
Weather cancellations are possible with seaplane travel. Refund and rebooking terms depend on the operator and your booking conditions. Build flexibility into your itinerary and confirm cancellation policy before payment.
Can I get a refund if seaplane service is not operating on my dates?
Refund terms depend on what was confirmed at booking. Because availability is verified before payment, cancellations due to non-availability before travel are handled according to your booking agreement. See our cancellation policy.
Packages
Can I combine a seaplane with a holiday package?
Yes. We plan packages that include seaplane sectors where available, along with island accommodation, permit assistance and inter-island transfers. See our packages section or contact us for a custom itinerary.
Do packages guarantee seaplane availability?
No. Packages include seaplane sectors subject to operational confirmation on your travel dates. We verify availability before finalising any booking.
Foreign travellers
Can foreign nationals visit Lakshadweep?
Yes, with a valid Lakshadweep entry permit and applicable visa/documentation. After obtaining a permit, foreign nationals are generally permitted to visit only Agatti, Bangaram and Kadmat, subject to current Administration rules.
Can foreign visitors travel to Kavaratti or Kalpeni?
Kavaratti, Kalpeni and Kiltan are not on the standard foreign-visitor island list. Foreign travellers should plan itineraries around Agatti, Bangaram and Kadmat unless special approval applies under current Administration rules. See our island guides.
Do foreign visitors need additional documentation?
Typically a valid passport, applicable visa, Lakshadweep entry permit and sometimes additional clearances depending on current regulations. Verify requirements on the official Lakshadweep Administration permit portal before applying.
